The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled that the Azerbaijani authorities’ refusal to register the Public Initiatives Center – Public Association constitutes a violation of the right to freedom of association.
In its decision of 23 February 2023 (Application No. 79522/13), the Court recognized the unlawful nature of the government’s refusal and ordered the registration of the organization.
Despite the ECHR judgment, the Azerbaijani government has continued to deny registration to the Public Initiatives Center, in contravention of the Court’s ruling.
